What is the new online testing I keep hearing about?
In the Spring of 2009, Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES), the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), and SkillsUSA announced an agreement to provide co-branded end of program exams for students in secondary and post-secondary automotive technology programs.

What does this mean for me?
The new exams merge the well-known end of program tests into a joint offering from the three groups. The boards and leaders of all three organizations agree that this a tremendous example of association partnership to best serve the needs of students, schools and the automotive service industry.

Through the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), ASE oversees the question development and delivery of the exams for all three organizations. Candidates and instructors are able to access the exam through a single co-branded test entry portal. Partner websites will link to this common portal.

How much do the tests cost?
A single $30 fee per student, per academic year, allows the student to take any or all tests in a test series twice each year – once in the Fall and once in the Spring. Fall tests can be designated as a pretest for pre- and post-test score reporting.

Which tests are offered?
The ASE Student Certification tests include all 8 ASE automotive areas, 4 Collision, Repair and Refinish areas, 4 Medium/Heavy Truck areas, and the new Maintenance & Light Repair test.

When is the system available?
The system is available year-round to check past scores and add student rosters. The next test window begins October 15, 2013.

Are the tests more difficult?
The tests should not be any harder than the previous AYES Exit Exam or the NATEF End of Program Tests.

Will this test collect demographic data?
We realize that schools need to capture and report demographic data, and that most schools already have a process in place for this purpose. Our intention is to provide data that schools can easily incorporate into their existing tracking systems.
